Bowen & Relaxation

WHAT is RELAXING ABOUT BOWEN?

The feedback I get from clients is that Bowen is very relaxing. I have had evidence of this: people fall asleep during sessions; they report the session is very relaxing; they report a good sleep afterwards; they are visibly more relaxed.

Some research has been done on the effectiveness of Bowen which evidences tension in joints is reduced as range of movement is increased e.g. in the shoulder.

Why is This?

  • The Session itself is a relaxing experience.
  • The Therapist has the necessary qualifications, skills and experience to qualify as a Bowen Therapist
  • The moves are gentle and purposeful

You can lie or sit whichever is most comfortable.

    You can wear light clothing.

The Therapist will leave you during the session for short breaks to allow your body to respond

    Your body heals itself

    • Bowen is relaxing because of the way it works.
  • It helps clients return to the dominance of the “rest/relax” (parasympathetic nervous system) from the “fight or flight”(sympathetic nervous system) which is the the body’s response to stress.
  •

The Bowen move itself can change the pain/muscle spasm loop as moves occur at points where receptors send messages to the CNS thus, changing the stimulus received by CNS

Bowen moves are often carried out on acupuncture points- acupuncturists’ comment on changes in pulses in response to moves.

Some procedures stimulate lymphatic drainage, stimulating the immune system; others initiate detox, or help clients work through emotional issues.
